LDHA

$10.00

The lactate dehydrogenase enzyme converts pyruvate into lactate [lactic acid], which can be used by the body for energy during periods of intense exercise. It also catalyzes the reverse reaction of lactate to pyruvate in times of recovery. Lactate dehydrogenase-A (LDHA) is a subunit of lactate dehydrogenase. A study identified alternative alleles in this gene in racing pigeons and the “A” variant was significantly associated with survivability in longer races compared to the “B” variant.

This study can be found here: LDHA

This test determines which LDHA alleles are present. The potential outcomes are B/B, A/B and A/A.

Sample requirements: please provide one feather approximately 2 inches long (the same feather can be used for multiple tests).

Results are typically available within 3 weeks.
